#interview with dj lexlara

1 So how did it all begin?  

I grew up listening to spanish oldies with a lot of drums and percussion.  The turning point was listening to Nubreed by Steve Lawler.  That sound was incredible to me as new DJ. 

2 Where do you live?

I reside in Miami, Florida USA

3  Where did the name come from?

Actually my middle name is ALEXIS and my second last name is LARA.  Didn't want to go crazy with it.

4  Which other countries have you played/put parties on

God willing, I will play my first overseas gig late July in London.  Fingers crossed!!

5 What's the best event you've played at/put on? 

This years WMC here in Miami.  Radio4by4 event at the Clevelander Hotel.  My time slot was late and a combination of great people and track selection made it all special for me.  Never had I experienced a crowd saying my name over and over.  

 6 What was your first record you bought?

The first record I purchased was FATBOY SLIM - STAR 69.  I didn't want to buy any records until I had my own turntables

 7 Out of all the tunes you have, which one 'never fails?'

CUBA COMPUTERS - HAUNTING ME (IBERICAN VOCAL MIX)  The way he sings that song is incredible.  Every time I play it, I have people asking me "whats the name of the track?"

 8 What's you favourite tune of all time?

Thats a tough question....  I'm going to say NAT MONDAY-WAITING.   It was a time in my life where things were all over the place.  That song puts a smile on my face... thats what music should do right?

9 So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment? 

I love how electronic artists are on commercials, doing projects with artist from different genres and always moving things forward into mainstream.  Love the big leap our scene has taken.  

10 What are your feelings on the MC's?

We always need a hype-man...  just not over my set.

12 What advice would you give to up and coming DJs/Producers?

Keep working on your craft every chance you get.  Great sound starts at the source not during mastering.  Be approachable, don't let one gig go to your head
